“The Playoff Challenge!”

During this time of year, we are all excited about our favorite football team’s  journey to the Super Bowl. While we cheer our teams on, a lot of us may indulge in foods we don’t ordinarily eat. Our challenge to you is to join us as we continue our healthy lifestyle goals.

This challenge will be a fun way to watch the games with friends and burn some calories. Each play that happens on the field will require you to get up and move, rather than sit down, upset, if you lose.
Everybody Wins!!!!!!!
*Play Off Challenge* Before the game starts, everyone has to commit to one team playing. Once each individual has committed to a team, that person has to remain with the selected team for the duration of the game.

Rules:
  • Each time your team allows the opposing team to get a first down, you must do three jumping jacks at the same time with everyone that chose your team.
  • Each time your team allows the other team to score; you and everyone that chose your team must do five pushups.
  • If your team fumbles the ball, you and everyone that chose your team must run in place for five minutes together.
  • If your team looses the game, you and everyone that chose your team must run around the house together three times no matter how cold the weather is.

Everybody is excited because they have a new year’s resolution to be better, fitter, healthier, and make 2017 their best year yet!

I am excited to share healthy habits, and encourage a fit lifestyle. Yet, what I hate to see happen, towards the end of January, the motivation slowly leaves. The excitement of going to the gym becomes an after thought, and excuses take over.

 

When speaking with students visiting my office, a common question I often hear is,

“How do I stay motivated”? 

 

Tip 1: Stay Persistent

14021521_1175358402484741_71952548888393287_nFind an exercise you enjoy. If you enjoy the activity, you will be more persistent in being successful. Some fun activities include aerobics, yoga, dance classes, biking, running.

Tip 2: Bring a Friend

Associate with people with similar goals. It is important to have an accountability partner in your circle. If you hang out with friends that suggest going to a pizza buffet over spin class, those bad habits will influence you.  Find a friend that will become your 2017 accountability partner and motivate each other.  

 

Tip 3: Be Realistic with your Goals

Remember you didn’t gain the Freshman 15 lbs in one week. Allow for slow progress over time. Just because you do not see results within 1 month, you still have 11 more months to come out on top. An estimated healthy weight loss is approximately 1 lb per week. We all have our bad days, just stay focused until next time.

Treatment of your partner is a MUST

I have  treated ladies in the past that complained of a malodorous discharge only temporarily resolved. In most cases, as I suspected, they admit that their partner was not treated.


While most men, do not show symptoms, they typically  serve as carriers that reinfect their partners.

If you are diagnosed, and treated for this STD (Trichomonas vaginalis), it is important that your partner be treated even if he has no symptoms. This will help avoid reinfection if you choose to continue the relationship.

Check with your family physician and go over risks and treatment options.

Remember abstinence is the safest choice.
